Reflect on the warm and cool feedback you received for your first project. Describe the experience -- what were the strengths and challenges of collaborating and completing the project? What skills or concepts do you still hope to develop throughout the semester?
Then brainstorm TWO ideas for a final project topic. This might be a topic of personal relevance to you, of general interest to you, or of some political or social importance.
I agreed with both the warm and cool feedback I received for Project #1. The warm feedback we received were that the pictures were entertaining, but not overly entertaining that it took the viewer's attention away. The cool feedback was that since our project was about lyrics, it would have been better if actual music was incorporated. I completely agree with that constructive criticism.
The hard part of doing a group project was finding the time to get together, since our schedules conflicted. Unfortunately, we had to split the project in half and complete it on our own times, but the good part was that it came together at the end and both of us put 100% into getting it done.
I definately hope to expand my knowledge of all of the technology we are learning throughout the semester. They are all good tools to know for my professional career after college.
two project ideas - expanding on the topic from Project #1 (the effect if hip-hop and rap lyrics) or expanding on our first in class assignment (magazines using photoshop and other tools to cover up flaws and give the wrong impression to young girls).
Then brainstorm TWO ideas for a final project topic. This might be a topic of personal relevance to you, of general interest to you, or of some political or social importance.
Turn in a HARD COPY of this reflection by 5 PM on Friday, July 20th, via email to the instructor.
Document the fair use reasoning process -- how do the copyrighted works that you're using in Project 1 exhibit fair use of the copyrighted material?
Any copyrighted material can be used by someone other than the original creator of the work as long as it is used in “Fair Use” context. Considering a work of art (whether it be text or in this case a photograph) to exhibit Fair Use includes it being subjected to comments and criticism, used for teaching or research purposes, etc. Basically, if the work is being transformed to benefit society, it is safe under Fair Use laws. In order to transform the work, there must be added value to the original work or the material must be repurposed. The positive sides of using work under the Fair Use doctrine is that the work does not need to be used with permission, you don’t have to pay for the work, and the original work does not need to be cited.
In terms of Project 1, the photos used exhibit Fair Use for several reasons. The first is that all of the original photos are being transformed by having different elements cut out or pasting new elements in. Therefore, multiple photographs will be cut and pasted to form one, new photograph. The entire concept of this project is to show how hip-hop lyrics are influential, so actual text will also be added. The text transforms each picture because it describes the context of the new picture, and it also wasn’t there before, so new material is being added. To again explain the process of how Project 1 exhibit Fair Use, the biggest transformation the pictures will be going through is taking elements from multiple photographs, combining them to make one picture, and using that to display how the lyrics are influential to young people.
All of the photographs used for Project 1 will also be documented and specifically explained as to why it is safe under the Fair Use laws and not to be considered copyright infringement.
What is a "remix"? Provide your own definition for the term remix. Then describe a time in your life that you have experienced or created a remix according to your definition. Reflect on both the source material for the remix and the new work. Post to the class wiki page before the start of class on Tuesday, June 10th. (You will need to create a personal homepage at the class wiki:http://templetv.wikispaces.com)
A remix is someone's own personal, creative, and original variation of something that already exists. When I was in student council in high school, I lead a leadership workshop and a district conference. I got the material for this specific workshop from a collaborative folder of ideas, and the theme was High School Musical. I put my own spin on the information and content that was inside the folder, changed ideas around, and incorporated new ideas, and even created new games to do for my workship.
